Octaves: 5-6 (7) octaves handbells, 4 oct. handchimes, piccolo and clarinet plus optional 3 oct. alternate bells
Composer: Michael Glasgow
AGEHR Level: V+
Description: This is an extraordinarily delightful original composition depicting the story of a sad, lonely clown who finally finds a friend. (Its subtitle is Pierrot Finds a Friend.) It is the winner of the 2007 Bells of the Sound “Three Ring Circus” Composition Contest. With a variety of meter, tempo and key changes, various handbell techniques and suggestions in the music such as “Clowns being chased by lions!” or “Clowns walking on tightropes!” --there is plenty of opportunity for drama along with virtuoso ringing in this unique and challenging work. It is a bona fide concert show stopper.
